The Practice Group Director sets and ensures the achievement of DLA Piper?s Practice Group business strategies and performance objectives while also collaborating with Firm Leadership to develop and facilitate the implementation of strategic initiatives. With a focus on firm financial health, we identify opportunity areas and organize our key activities in an effort to effect positive change on the firms? bottom line profit. We were one of the first law firm business development departments to build a market-facing team of business developers with experience selling professional services, and we remain a market leader in this area. Our efforts include opportunity qualification, identifying prospects, pursuing introductions, and pipeline management. The department consistently demonstrates growth in revenue generation. Minimum Requirements: + Bachelor?s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field + 8 years? experience in Finance, or Business Development in a professional services firm + Thorough understanding of a law firm environment and operations + Proven leadership skills to work productively with lawyers and staff at all levels and in all offices + Disciplined to solve complex problems, with the ability to resolve issues and drive solutions + Excellent oral and written communication skills + Ability to successfully provide guidance and resolution strategies to senior leadership + Adaptable, innovative and detail oriented Preferred Requirements: + Master?s Degree What will your day look like? As the Practice Group Director, you will play a lead role in maintaining operational effectiveness and innovation in service delivery and matter management. This will include performance monitoring, improvement and solutions development to meet annual revenue targets. You will drive cash conversion initiatives, including engagement letter compliance, strategic pricing, time charging hygiene, billing timeliness, and prompt collections. In collaboration with our Legal Project Management team, you will conduct partner, client and matter analysis in order to drive corrective action and develop strategies for profit improvement. You will play a vital role in the profitable growth in our Client Development and Marketing practice groups by ensuring client satisfaction, promoting thought leadership, expanding client relationships, and improving internal communications. This will entail ensuring the best attorneys are hired, integrated, retained and developed by collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop specific short- and long-term retention plans and Diversity & Inclusion initiatives. You will also serve as a coach and trusted advisor to Practice Group Partners by assisting them in achieving business goals and performance metrics under the direction of the COO, Chief Strategic Initiatives Officer and other members of Firm Leadership. These results will be delivered against a defined scope of work that includes measurable Return on Investment (ROI), strategic innovation, performance reporting and staff development.
